Our book choices for this age are based on Maria Montessori's philosophy where she found that learning from reality based stories and pictures is best for children while they are in the first plane of development and their brain is still forming.
Most of these books have been bought second hand and we have kept them from when my son was this age (and one was a freebie from the library!). I have also included links to order them online, where possible.
To add a note here - my blog features affiliate links and as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases (at no extra cost to you). Thank you for supporting Montessori Chapters!
A simple lift the flap book about Buster who is staying with his Grandma on the farm and is fetching some eggs. On each page is a simple illustration of different animals and places that they stay on the farm, with flaps that they are hiding behind. It doesn't say the name of each animal but just the noise that they make. It is a cartoon style but everything in this book is realistic. My daughter loves joining in with the 'Oh Dear!' phrase on each page.
A fun book that you sing along to the tune of 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'. This features different types of vehicles and my daughter loves pointing out the dogs and sheep on the various pages as we read it. We got this for free from our local library when my son was little, as part of their Bookstart program.
